We're not not in Kansas anymore

Today we got into Kansas. Yesterday we had a build day and it was great. I actually met the woman we were building the house for. She was very nice and made a point of thanking me and shaking my hand. It felt good. Also, it took me at least a dozen calls, but I managed to score a ton of KFC and pizza for dinner DM. Plus there is enough for next few days.  We left the mega church this morning, and did an easy 50 into kansas. We are in Lawrence now. It is such lovely country. We went to a rooftop bar at a hotel and saw for miles and miles. Sooo cool! Sleepy now.

Welcome to Kansas. Miles of miles of miles of miles.

Restore/more saving of Christmas

I'm at a habitat restore right now in Manhattan Kansas. Yesterday we rode 84 miles across Kansas
. Man was it flat! -a miracle happend, after lunch we got a huge tailwind. We were cruising at 21 mps. There was a bit of storm near the end wich was a little scary
. Than we got to the host which is pretty nice. I got my own room and I grabbed some pillows for a makeshift bed. The hosts made us dinner alongside a scout troop. We had bratwurst and apple cobbler and tea. Than it was my crew's turn to do laundry. We all went to the Landry mat and had a great time.

Today we worked for the restore moving things in the building. I worked with two local boys. We moved a fake Christmas tree
We than moved some windows. We found some wasps in them so I grabbed a bottle of raid and it 'twas a slaughter. Now we are headed back to the host. Tonight will be a lot of fun, we are going to be sharing the host with another group of bikers doing the same thing, they are called 4k for cancer. Either way, it's only one pm and we are done for the day, time to relax!

Break!

The last two days consisted of a 90 mile ride which constituted our last great ride through Missouri. It was a nice day weather wise, overcast and cool. The ride went smoothly, but was just long. The worst part was a several mile stretch we had to go on that was gravel. And when I say gravel,  I mean really big rock gravel. It took us close to an hour just to go those few miles, and when we finished I kissed the paves rode. We finally arrived in a suburb of Kansas City. We are staying in a mega church. Yesterday was our first day off. I slept in until 8 (woo) and than ate some cereal and cleaned my bycycle. We than shuttled into the city. We ate at a Thai place, than took a tour of the boulevard brewery. Than we bought some food, went to a park and dozed. We than walked to the ww1 memorial, are BBQ and than went back to the church and watched toy story. Than off to bed. Right now I am off to another build sight. Hopefully I can DM some food for tonight :)

The sweet sweet trail!

The last two days we have been on a pretty sick bike trail. Yesterday we did 78ish and today was 88ish. Even though it's a little gravelly, it was very nice. Yesterday I biked the better part if the day with Aaron and Drew, had some pretty good bro time. They are pretty good guys, and they really pushed me to go faster than I'm used to, and we did some pretty good sprints. At lunch Blythe's tire exploded. We got into Jefferson City and spent some time exploring the Capitol and taking pictures. Than after diner I just passed the &$?# out. In my jeans and everything. Sunny and Alex were kind enough to inflate my thermorest and tuck me into bed. Today was a little rough. There must have been a storm or something cause the trail was covered with fallen trees and branches. A bunch of times we had to get off and climb around or through them. Rode with Athena again, and had another good day. We saw a guy fishing with a bow and arrow! There were also some cool tunnels. We got in around 7. Dinner was really awkward cause the host thought everyone was suppose to get here at 1, and so were really angry when everyone showed up at 5-7. I'm in a gym, big day tommorow, and we won't have a nice bike trail this time. Sleep is required. Just thought I would update y'all.....y'all, god I've been in the south a while...

Yar, shiver me timbers!

Today was a great day. We left St. Louis, a town that I did not particularly care for, and got to go the lions portion of today's ride on a freaking bike path. For us that is huge! Cars are really scary, and being in a bike path is so chill. Plus we passed a lake where there was this watersports stand and we DMed a bunch of paddle boards and kayaks. We paddled around for about an hour and had a great battle of flipping each other over and getting each other wet. I had a grand time and shouted in a pirate voice. We also met this really cool dude who was singing and roller skating and knew some Japanese and I talked to him in that. I rode with Athena today and all in all was a good today. It was also Joyce's birthday, so we had cake for her and than we went to a bar here in Washington Missouri, and now I'm going to bed. Oh and we saw a turtle.

How I saved Christmas

Posted from my bob journal entry:

Today was a pretty good day. We awoke from our slumber through the amazing power of determination, friendship, and bagels. After cleaning the host site we did some zen bycycle maintenance, after which we were led in our traditional cheer by our very own Sam jasper. We than set out, or first stop being a coffee shop to aquire some much needed caffeine for the group. Than it was off to tarre haut. Considering the other rides that we have had, this one was not to to bad. Mostly flats and rolling hills. I didn't even get a flat tire! Along the way Athena, soko and I spotted a tag sale. We decided to be a little funny and bought a little Christmas tree and a Santa Claus outfit. On the last leg of the ride before lunch I put it on and surprised a few people! Some folks stopped at a castle along the way, but my group decided against it. The rest of the ride was pleasant, and we rolled in to the host at around 4pm. After a refresing snack generously provided by our host, we were shuttled off to the local Y for our showers, where I was given a free towel. It is brown, I am happy about it. Several of us walked back to the host where we enjoyed a great Dinner followed by a huge helping of cookies, brownies, and ice cream. After some watched a movie called breaking away, and some of us played games. Before bed, I am many others called our dads for Father's Day before taking a well deserved rest.

Rootiness tootiness shootiness biker this side the Mississippi

We are in St. Louis now! We had a build day today and it was soooooo hot out. The past few days have been pretty flat, hot and windy. We had a sad moment the other day, a dog chased a couple of us out into the road and got hit by a car. There was also a death of another cyclist on a trip similar to ours a few days ago, so we are being very careful. We also saw the race for America guys pass us going the opposite direction. I told one of them we were going to the Pacific while they were going to the Atlantic. It is crazy what they do. Makes us feel like a leisure ride. We stayed at the university of Indiana the other day, than just churches until today, we are at the university of Missouri. Going across the Mississippi River was a blast. Oh, I had White Castle tonight. It was meh. I rode sweep into the city with one of the Emily's. There are talks of a bob prom happening next week for our day off. It's kind of a big deal since we only get like 3 days off all summer.
Here are some pictures of me and stuffs. Apologizes if my prose for this blog is not up to snuff, I'm usually writing this right before passing out on my thermomattress. Night night!

Also, there is a bike and build journal that we all take turns writing, and can be found on the website. I wrote for last Sunday, so I'm going to throw my entry on here for another post.
